Car rental in Turin

Pointless in the historic centre, useful for the Langhe and the Savoy residences. Here's how to think about it.

Good to know

Restricted zones: what to know before driving in Turin

Turin's historic centre has an extensive restricted traffic zone and the centre is well served by metro and tram. If your goal is to see Piazza Castello, skip the car: the centre is comfortably walkable under the porticoes. If your goal is exploring the Langhe, Monferrato or the Savoy residences outside the city independently, renting makes sense — pick up the car at a car park outside the centre and don't attempt to drive it into the restricted zone.

When it's worth renting
The difference is between "driving around Turin" (never) and "using Turin as a base for the Langhe and the Savoy residences" (often yes).

When it makes sense

For the Langhe, Monferrato and the Savoy residences outside the city (Venaria, Stupinigi) — these destinations are best explored by car, with your own schedule and free stops at wineries.

When it doesn't

For staying in Turin: the historic centre is compact, well connected by metro and tram, and strictly enforced. A car here is only a parking problem.
